Fire Safety and Pumpkins

October is Fire Safety Month and 1KC has been learning all kinds of tips
to keeping safe and protecting ourselves from fires.

We were visited by

Officer Sweeney where we practiced simulated 9-1-1 calls and learned the importance of smoke detectors.

Look at our pumpkin creations!!  This what we started with....

Then, it was all up to them to create a pumpkin!!

Some even went 3-D!!

Mrs. Marcum, the school nurse also paid us a visit to give us a lesson on germs, hand washing and staying healthy!  She even brought in some germ-filled balloons (aka confetti) to demonstrate how sneezing can spread germs vs. covering up with a tissue!!  Wow!  Those germs flew everywhere!!!

Mrs. Marcum and her "germs"

We also decorated our classroom door in anticipation of the Normal Community Ironmen's visit for Homecoming!  All week we have been learning Olympic themed trivia and brought home the "gold " ourselves when we answered a question correctly.  We received Smarties for using our Smarts!!!
The real winners, though are the Gators for donating over 1,700 cans of food and non-perishable items for Claire House!  Thank you !!
