Fabulous First Graders!!!

As we move into October, we will be working on Fire Safety, Owls, Bats, Making Connections in Reading, writing personal experiences in Writing Workshop and measurement and data in math!  Throw in Columbus and Halloween and we have ourselves a PACKED month!!!

I wanted to share some highlights from September in 1KC.  We worked on growing our schema
(what we know), ocean and forest habitats, math facts to 10 using number lines and ten frames, Johnny Appleseed and apples!!!
Math workshop has been a huge success, thanks in part, to all of the great volunteers!!!  The Gators
so enjoy having you join us during that time and we hope it is worthwhile for all of you too!!!

Here's to a great month gone and another fun one to come....

Reading Workshop!!!
We used Lego blocks to reflect the connections we made with a story as a class, then again, at our own seats!!!

H is for Habitats

Parents,
We are working hard to finish our Alligators All Around handwriting practice and have also been
studying habitats in science.    Our first habitat is the Ocean and this week we have made an example of the oceans zones and some creatures that live there.  We are also working on writing our first stories with a beginning, middle and an end!!
However, the biggest news of all is....all of the Grove Gators were a Howling Success yesterday
during our Code Red Drill!!! Woo hoo!!!!  Here is the proof!!!!
You should be very proud...I am!!!

A "Paws"-itively Perfect Class!!

Hi Parents,
Welcome to 1KC!!! This blog is a primary method of sharing information and pictures (!) about our
time at school.  I will always send out an email when it is updated with the subject: Blog is updated!
There is a direct link underneath my name on the email that can take you to the blog.  Once there, you
can view the pictures or even share the address with family that might also enjoy seeing your Gator at school!

We have started out the first few days of first grade studying books about
dogs to match our room's decor this year!!!  We have enjoyed, in particular, stories from author, Gene
Zion about Harry, the Dirty Dog.  This white dog with black spots has some fun adventures everywhere
he goes.  Ask your Gator to tell you about one of them tonight!!
We have gone over routines at Grove and in the classroom, practiced inside recess and working with
partners!!  Everyone seems happy to be here and ready to learn!

I look forward to seeing all of you next Thursday night at 6:30 here in room 107 at Grove.
